Useful Tips for your Isle of Man Journey
- 1. Book for the TT early: If you plan to visit during the Isle of Man TT motorcycle races, you must book your ferry at least a year in advance. Tickets sell out almost instantly.
- 2. Check the fast craft: The Manannan is a fast catamaran. It is very quick but can be sensitive to rough sea conditions. If the weather is poor, expect delays or a move to the slower conventional ship.
- 3. Foot passenger ease: The ferry terminal in Douglas is right in the heart of the town. If you walk on the boat, you can easily reach most hotels and the vintage steam railway without needing a car.
Important Information Before You Go
The Isle of Man uses its own Manx pound notes. Irish and UK sterling are accepted on the island, but Manx notes can be hard to spend once you return to Ireland. Also, while you do not need a passport for the Common Travel Area, most ferry companies require a valid photo ID to board.
