Sitting a mere 1.2 kilometers off the Turkish coast, the twin ports of Vathy and Karlovasi process over 300,000 ferry passengers every year. Blue Star Ferries and Dodekanisos Seaways are the largest operators moving heavy vehicle traffic through the eastern Aegean. Check the ferry map above to track the busy shipping lanes heading north to Chios or south to Patmos. You need your own vehicle to tackle the steep, winding mountain roads connecting the island’s remote fishing villages.
