Ferry to Folegandros
Escape the heavy tourist crowds of the Cyclades by catching a high-speed Seajets catamaran or a traditional Zante Ferries vessel out of Piraeus. Check the ferry map above to see how these routes weave through the Aegean, making it easy to hop over to Santorini or to Milos. These ships bring thousands of summer visitors directly into the small, welcoming port of Karavostasis. Since the island is tiny and easily walkable, you can comfortably leave your rental car back on the mainland.

The Cliffside Escape: Ferries to Folegandros
Folegandros is a quiet island near Santorini. It has no airport, so you have to take a ferry. The largest ferry operators in the region include Seajets and Zante Ferries. It is a bit further out in the sea, so picking the right boat matters.
- From Athens (Piraeus): You can take a fast Seajets boat which takes 4 to 5 hours. You can also take a slower, traditional Zante Ferry which takes up to 9 hours. The slow ferry is much cheaper and smoother on windy days.
- The Santorini Shortcut: The smartest trick is to fly into Santorini, then take a fast ferry to Folegandros. This boat ride only takes 45 to 50 minutes.
- Pricing (2026): A fast boat from Athens costs around โฌ80. The short hop from Santorini is about โฌ40 to โฌ50. Keep an eye on the cost of a ferry crossing in peak season, as these routes do not get cheaper closer to the date.
In July and August, strong winds called the Meltemi blow through the Cyclades. These winds frequently delay or cancel the smaller, fast ferries. If your flight home leaves from Athens, never leave Folegandros on the same day. Always plan to be back in Athens 24 hours before your flight.
“The port of Karavostasis on Folegandros is tiny. When a big ferry arrives, it gets very chaotic. Have your hotel arrange a pickup in advance. There are only a few taxis on the whole island and they get taken instantly.”
