Ferry to Bahrain
Skip the border traffic entirely. You can cross the Gulf on Masar Group’s passenger-only fast ferry coming straight over from a trip to Qatar. This 70-minute sea route drops you right into Sa’ada Marina, completely bypassing the busy King Fahd Causeway checkpoints. The vessels are exclusive, holding just 28 passengers per trip, so you must secure your ticket on their app well in advance. Check the regional ferry map to see how this port connects with the local water taxis running throughout the islands. Since you cannot bring a car on board, simply grab a ride-share once you dock in Manama.

The Persian Crossing: Modern transit to Bahrain
Accessing Bahrain by sea has undergone a major transformation with the November 2025 launch of the first-ever direct international passenger ferry in the Gulf. While the King Fahd Causeway remains the primary route for vehicles from Saudi Arabia, the new maritime link from Qatar offers a specialized alternative for those looking to bypass land border congestion. This is a passenger-only service focused on speed and comfort rather than heavy freight.
- The Qatar-Bahrain Link: Operated via the MASAR platform, this high-speed service connects Al-Ruwais Port (Northern Qatar) to Saโada Marina (Bahrain). The journey covers 35 nautical miles in approximately 70 to 80 minutes, significantly faster than the 4 to 5 hour drive through Saudi Arabia.
- Vessel Specs & Capacity: The route uses modern, air-conditioned catamarans with a capacity of roughly 30 passengers. There are two tiers: Standard and VIP. The VIP section offers larger seating and enhanced hospitality services. Vessels are equipped with free Wi-Fi and restrooms.
- Price Points (2026): One-way tickets are priced at approximately QAR 174 for Standard and QAR 257 for VIP. Round-trip fares offer better value at QAR 257 (Standard) and QAR 354 (VIP). Children under 2 years old typically travel at half price.
- Check-in & Visa: Booking is exclusively digital via the MASAR app; there are no walk-in ticket sales. GCC citizens travel visa-free, while residents and other nationalities can often obtain a 2-week visa on arrival in Bahrain, provided they upload their passport and residency data to the app beforehand.
As of 2026, there is no car ferry service to Bahrain from Qatar or the UAE. If you want to have your own car on the island, the only way is to drive via the Saudi causeway. The ferry is strictly for foot passengers, but Saโada Marina is located in Muharraq, which is a very short taxi ride from Manamaโs main business districts.
“Treat this like a flight rather than a boat ride. The security and customs process at Al-Ruwais is thorough. Also, the Hecate-style winds in the Gulf can occasionally cause cancellations, so always check the ‘Sailing Status’ in the app before driving an hour north of Doha to the port.”
