Ferry Map & Routes to Lefkada
Ferry routes to Lefkada operate from the southern ports of Nydri and Vasiliki, as a road bridge already connects the northern tip to the mainland. Ionion P. Lines and Lefkada Palace are the largest local operators running passenger and vehicle services across this stretch of the Ionian Sea. This water route is your best shortcut if you want to skip a long mainland drive. From these southern docks, you can load your car and sail directly south to Kefalonia or to Ithaca.

The Dodecanese Hub: Ferry routes to Kos
Kos is one of the most important islands in the Dodecanese chain, located very close to the coast of Turkey. The largest ferry operators in the region include Blue Star Ferries, Dodekanisos Seaways, and Makri Travel. Because it has a major airport and a massive harbor, it is a primary transit point for people traveling to smaller nearby islands.
| Starting Port | Travel Time | Price Estimate (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Athens (Piraeus) | 10 to 14 hours | โฌ60 to โฌ90 (Book a cabin for the overnight trip). |
| Bodrum, Turkey | 20 to 45 minutes | โฌ15 to โฌ25 (You need your passport for this route). |
| Rhodes | 2.5 to 5 hours | โฌ30 to โฌ50 (Depends on if you take a fast or slow boat). |
Kos Town handles all the big ferries from Athens and Rhodes, plus the daily boats to Turkey. Mastichari is a smaller port on the north coast that only serves boats to Kalymnos. Kardamena in the south serves boats to Nisyros. Always check your ticket to see which port you need!
“Kos is completely flat near the main town, making it the best island in Greece for bicycling. When you get off the ferry at Kos Town, you can rent a bike right across the street and cycle to your hotel on dedicated bike paths.”
The Small Cyclades: Ferries to Koufonisia route map
Koufonisia is a tiny, beautiful destination famous for crystal clear water. The largest ferry operators in the region include Seajets, Blue Star Ferries, and Small Cyclades Lines. The island is actually two islands, but tourists stay on Ano Koufonissi. It is very small, so you do not need a car.
| Starting Port | Travel Time | Vessel Type |
|---|---|---|
| Athens (Piraeus) | 5 to 8 hours | Fast catamarans are quicker but bumpy. Blue Star is slower but very smooth. |
| Naxos | 40 mins to 2.5 hours | This is the best way to arrive. Fly or take a big boat to Naxos, then hop over. |
| Amorgos | 30 mins to 1 hour | Very easy day trip or next stop on your island hopping plan. |
Do not pay to bring a rental car to Koufonisia. The island is so small that you can walk from the port to the furthest beach in about 40 minutes. There are also small taxi boats that shuttle people from the port to the beaches all day long.
“If you have time, book a trip on the legendary ‘Express Skopelitis’. It is a small local boat that connects Naxos to the Small Cyclades every day. It is slow and rides every single wave, but it is an authentic Greek island experience you will never forget.”
The Bridge and Boat: Ferry map and routes to Lefkada
Lefkada is unique because it is connected to the Greek mainland by a floating bridge. You do not need a ferry to get there from Athens. However, ferries are vital for connecting Lefkada to the other Ionian islands. The largest ferry operators in the region include Ionion P. Lines and Lefkada Palace.
| Starting Port | Arrival Port in Lefkada | Travel Time |
|---|---|---|
| Kefalonia (Fiskardo) | Vasiliki or Nydri | 1 to 1.5 hours (Great for moving your rental car between islands). |
| Ithaca (Frikes) | Vasiliki or Nydri | 1.5 hours (Runs heavily during the summer months). |
| Meganisi | Nydri | 25 minutes (A quick daily commuter boat). |
The port of Vasiliki in the south of Lefkada handles most of the ferries to Kefalonia. In recent years, high winds or construction have sometimes forced boats to leave from Nydri instead. Always confirm your departure port the day before you travel.
“If you do not have a car, look into the Lefkada Palace ferry. It is a passenger only boat that runs a dedicated island hopping route connecting Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Kefalonia, and Zakynthos. It is the cheapest way to see all the Ionian islands.”
